FIRST 10K! and other stuff

This past weekend myself along with my sister and Mike ran a the Richmond 10k.  We had a great time.  I know its crazy to say we had a great time running, but the weekend was fun in general.  They had run the event before but I have had never run it.  I was highly impressed and beat my goal time of 75 minutes.  I ran the course in 1 hr 11min and 14 sec.  We had a really nice visit in Richmond with my Grandmother who is still spunky and going strong.  She's an amazing lady.  We had dinner with my Aunt and Uncle as well at a cute little restaurant in Ashland, VA.  I was sort of nervous and didn't know what to expect doing a 10k, but it really wasn't that bad.  I probably could've pushed harder but didn't see the point.   So in all this running madness Sarah, Mike and I have signed up for the Virginia Beach Rock N Roll half marathon Labor Day weekend.  WHAT ARE WE THINKING!!!!!!   This means  training through the summer, hopefully its not a scorcher!

Yesterday Grace had her first swimming lesson.  She's a natural, just like her momma!  Her big step yesterday was blowing bubbles!  We're taking them at Bridgewater College.  I could very well teach her lessons after my experience with swimming, lifeguarding, and teaching swimming lessons, but I figure it's good for someone else to tell her what to do and show her what to do since I'm home with her all the time.   We're still inconsistently using the potty, but we'll get there!

Baseball is underway but with not such good luck.  Hopefully the Streaks can pull a win out!!!  Go Big Blue.

Friday's post on a Saturday

Good Evening,

I finally have some time to sit and write about what happened this week.

Baseball had a scrimmage postponed from Tuesday to Thurs so it messed up our St Patrick's day plans.  It was OK Whitney and I did our usual every 2 week trip to Beyond..  Nothing says Irish like Sushi and Wine - right!

Friday Grace and I spent the whole day together just us girls!  We had her 2.5 year check up where she weighed in at a whopping 26lbs and is 37inches in height.  She's doing so well and its right on track to where she needs to be.  We're doing better and better, then not so good, then better with the potty.  Taking it day by day.  After her check up we went and visited where she'll be going to preschool next year, Imagination Station. I know she'll do great there, I think I'm going to be the one in tears that first day of preschool then when she goes to elementary school.  Really where does the time go?  She got to do sidewalk chalk with the 3 year old class and my little girl looked so tiny among those kids.  I always thought she was so much bigger but I guess its because I see infants all day long and the 3 year old I have is on the small end in day care.   She enjoyed her time there.  We celebrated with a lunch from "donald's"  McDonalds and of course her choice was chicken and fries and ketchup.  After a nap we headed to a Dream Come True Park and had a great time with Addy, Riley, and Aunt Sosa (Sarah) .   Once Kevin came home from baseball practice we headed to dinner at O'Charley's ... had a sweet dinner with my little family.  It made up for the baseball scrimmage ruining our plans from St Patrick's Day.

Saturday I did an hour and a half work out and we went to the basketball banquet.  Of course we're now in March Madness and basketball is all that's been on the TV for the last couple of days.  My bracket is sucking!  Grace is doing well, but I filled out her bracket so I think that counts - right?! As far as I know Shawn (Kev's bro) is in the lead.  We'll see there are many games to be played!   Well its off to bed I go.  Yes I know we lead an eventful life on a Saturday night.

gotta love weekends...

So our potty training the last few days has been less and less of using the potty and more and more messes.   She is very stubborn and unfortunately she gets that honest.  We'll get there one day right?   I think I get more frustrated by it than she does.  I just wish I didn't.  But for those of you that truly know me patience isn't my strong point and when I want something done I want it done yesterday.

Last night we watched the movie Grown Ups.  Its was hilarious and I actually have been trying to watch it for many months now.  My basketball fan husband gave up watching the ACC tourney for a movie night with his wife.  Those little things are what matter the most, I think.   When we got together intially it was during the NCAA tournament.

My 10k training went well today.  I really don't have a time I'm focusing to run but actually making it through the race.   I walked to the gym which is 1.6 miles from our house and ran 3.2 miles on the treadmill at the gym, I then ran/walked 1.6 home.   The day was beautiful, a little windy, but beautiful nonetheless.

This morning we did our taxes and were thrilled to find out we were actually getting money back and did not have to owe.  Seriously,  I think my husband would've had a fit, if we owed money and I would've been finding a job outside of the home for sure. Supposedly teachers are actually getting a raise this year.  I'll believe it when I see it. !!

Tonight's dinner is El Charro's - with friends .  I'm certainly going to enjoy my Mexican food and a Margarita to go along with it.   I think I earned it after the butt kicking workout I had!!

I signed us up to do the Church nursery tomorrow.  I'm sure Kevin isn't really thrilled about doing this, but I'm sure he'll do a good job.

FRIDAY!!!!!!

Over in my part of the world its a great Friday, the sun is finally shining, but for others in this world they are battling natural disaster.  Praying for the people of Japan and those under a Tsunami watch in America as well as other countries.  Its so sad.  Also praying for those that are experiencing flooding too.  I can be happy I'm blessed where I am right now but my heart breaks for those people.

This weekend we are heading to dinner (El Charro's) with some friends and going to Church.  For us that is pretty relaxed.  I think tonight I may pick up a movie and order pizza in for Kevin and I.  We won't get another Friday evening once baseball season kicks in for awhile.

I leave you with a picture of my loved ones.

New Happenings

Good Morning,

I have been horrible keeping up with this blog and I promise to do better.

Our little baby is not so much of a baby anymore.  Grace turned 2 and a half on March 1st.   We just finished up our second session of gymnastics.  Grace is also potty-training.  We have our good days and our bad days but she is a trooper and she's keeping at it.  A good friend of mine told me it wouldn't work until it was her idea and she was right.  March 2 she says Mommy I have to potty and so we took off from there.  She's , growing up, brushing her teeth, and we signed her up for preschool to start in September.  The only thing we cannot get her to do is sleep in her own bed at night time.  We know this is our faults and honestly if she wants to stay with us until she's 12 its OK.  Kevin loves having his little girl to snuggle with at night.  I don't blame him she is pretty sweet and snuggly.  Its just another bridge we'll have to cross one day, but Kevin and I aren't ready to push the issue.

Many of you wonder when we will be adding another member to our family.   We tried for a few months and were back at Charlottesville doing fertility treatments for a little less than a year. We had to sit down and discuss how much time and money we were willing to invest in doing this.  Kevin and I both decided that we weren't going to return to Charlottesville in December.  We are so Blessed with our little girl and we believe if God wants us to have another child then it will happen all in His Timing. The fertility drugs make me an emotional wreck and that's not really fair to my kids I watch or my own little girl.   We're not sweating the issue anymore and are really enjoying our time with Grace.

I'm at home doing childcare still.  I love every moment of spending time with Grace and my two nieces Addy and Riley.  Like all jobs it has its shares of ups and downs, but I just remember I do this because of Grace and it makes the ride worthwhile.  I'm very lucky to have wonderful parents to work for and pretty sweet kids that hang out with me everyday. It is a big change from working with school age kids who communicate well with you to ones just learning how to talk.  I think I have become an expert in toddlernese !

I am currently signed up to do a 10k on April 2 in Richmond with my sister and Mike.  This should be interesting to say the least, but I think I'm prepared for it.... I think??!   Actually I'm excited because I have a goal.  I'm also running the Autism 5k April 16th.  I need to stay in shape and healthy.

Lent started and I decided not to give up anything this year but to spend time with God for 40 days  and renew my Faith. My best friend Jenny gave me some devotions to follow which will help me.  I find I need to make time for God and His Goodness again and make it a lifestyle change not just during Lent.

Kevin has started coaching baseball.  This will be the second season he has been out playing summer league baseball.  I don't think he misses it much.  When asked to help coach this summer he said he wanted to work on his basketball program more and didn't have the time.   His basketball season had its stressful moments, but they ended up losing by 5 points into making it to the start of the State Tournament.   We will have been together for 7 years on St Patrick's Day - which is when we started dating. We're still going strong - haha!  It's crazy how time really flies by.

Have a wonderful day!

PS

I chickened out leaving my baby girl at the beach. If she wasn't so pitiful I would've left her. I would've hated leaving her if she was sick.
